In march 2011 we visited New Zealand again, this time we kept staying on the north island.
Kakariki we saw: Yellow crowned parakeets we could hear in some native forests but they were mostly hidden in the high tops of trees.

Otoharanga Native Bird Park
Otoharanga is a sanctuary specialized for breeding endangerd spezies.
It's the place where the first Kiwis bread in capture and it's the place in New Zealand where you can see Kiwis the best.
Kakariki are living in different Aviaries. You can see the red crowned parakeets in a really great Aviary you can walk through. The vegatation is native forest.
In pic1 you can see the smaller Aviary for the yellow crowned parakeets and the big Aviary for sevaral species in the background.
In the evening you can book a guided tour through the sanctuary. This is the possibility to see the places, you only can visit this way.

There is so much to show, here i can only display the kakarikipictures and one of Tasman, the kiwi we saw on the guided tour (pic 25)
